Back To School Information71904_65851_3.png

Welcome to the first grade in Room 34 at Waterboro Elementary School. First grade is a very exciting year as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated.

During first grade, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more. I hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of schooling.

Below you will find helpful information for a smooth transition into first grade.

Lunch and Snack71904_73552_7.png
The children can purchase lunches and snacks at the school or bring in their own. I will send a lunch envelope home every Friday in the Friday Folder.

The food service has been implementing a very successful automated computer system. Each student has a separate account. Money received by envelope is credited to the student's account. As students go through the lunch line, they punch in their pin number, and the lunch is deducted from their account. Tickets are no longer issued. You will receive a lunch envelope from me in late August. These can be brought in for the first day of school.

In the first grade we have a daily snack time (10 minutes). You will need to send in a healthy snack and drink for your child each day.

Supplies71904_73658_8.png
Please send supplies in on the first day of school.  Many of these items go on sale in August and can be purchased inexpensively.

Items for each student to keep in desks:

small box of crayola crayons (16-24 count)
pencils (non-mechanical)
a plastic pencil box (with lid that snaps shut) to keep all above items

Items to be collected for classroom use:

box of soft tissues
large glue sticks (3 or more)

A backpack, or large carrying bag, is essential. On Library Day, your child will bring home library books, and on Friday, the Friday Folder. A backpack makes it easier to store these things.

First Day Packet71904_74622_9.png
On the first day of school, your child will bring home a packet of information which will include the School Handbook. Please review the contents of the handbook carefully and keep it for future reference. Also, be sure to fill out the emergency card as quickly as possible. These cards are due back promptly.
